Who are the humans behind Bauernmann Pasture-Raised Chicken?
Ernst Mielmann is an entrepreneurial software engineer who grew up on a beautiful farm in the Eastern Free State. He has always had a love for languages, the outdoors and adventure - with hobbies including (but not limited to) cycling, rock-climbing, and photography. In 2009 he met his wife, Andriëtte, and they got married 2011, starting their biggest adventure yet!
Andriëtte shares his passions and has a love for the classic arts - faith, homesteading, sewing, cooking, baking, knitting, music, crochet, soap-making (and everything in-between). They currently have 3 beautiful children who are an integral part of everything they do.
As a family they moved to Cape Town in 2018, and slowly made their way out of the city to their current homestead (just outside Yzerfontein) in 2023. A desire for healthier food, (and limited options in the grocery store) led them to start up their Pasture-Raised Chicken farm in March 2025. At first, they only sold to friends and family. However, they quickly realized that more families were interested in also buying chicken meat that was raised on pasture and fed a diet free from GMO's, hormones and antibiotics.
Conrad Groenewald joined their team as farm manager in mid 2025. He is an essential part of the farm's day-to-day operations. His attention to detail, uncompromising work ethic and intuitive sense of "what needs to be done" is what has helped the farm grow and continue to thrive.
The Yzerfontein locals and business owners are an amazing community who have opened their hearts and doors to making Bauernmann's produce a household name. It is not uncommon for people to come in as customers and leave as friends.
